Preston’s only goal in the match came from an incredible 40-yard lob by Robbie Brady. In the second half, more young players were given a chance to impress, while regular starters Wataru Endo and Stefan Bajcetic also had a turn. The friendly was the first unofficial game for Slot, who was appointed as Liverpool manager in June. Arne Slot’s team lost to a Championship opponent at the AXA Training Centre.

Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat to Preston North End in a behind closed doors friendly on Friday afternoon.

The match was confirmed on social media, but no kick-off time was given and fans were not allowed to watch the match live at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre.

The official Twitter account for Championship side PNE announced that they had won the match 1-0, with Ireland international Robbie Brady scoring an “incredible 40-yard lob”. Unfortunately, with no footage of the match likely to be released, fans may just have to imagine what that looked like.

Liverpool fielded a relatively strong squad for what was new manager Arne Slot’s unofficial first game in charge.

According to journalist David Lynch, Mo Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Jarell Quansah were among the players who played in the first half.

In the second half, more young players were given chances, although regular starters Wataru Endo and Stefan Bajcetic also had their turn.
