Detailed forecast

Today may not be perfect, but it will be pleasant enough for mid-July. Enjoy it before rain chances return this weekend, especially Saturday. South of the city, there could be a fair amount of rain on Sunday as well. Rain will be welcome, though, as drought conditions continue—or worsen—across much of the region.

Today (Friday): Average temperatures in the mid 80s to around 90 degrees. Best summer comfort as well, as the driest, lowest dew points in a while are briefly seen today. A few notable northeasterly winds are possible, especially in the morning hours. It should be fairly sunny, but there is a chance of fog as Canadian wildfires flare up again. Air quality should remain moderate or locally code yellow. Confidence: medium-high

This evening: Light winds from the south and skies generally partly cloudy, although cloudier towards sunrise with a slight chance of showers. The evening looks pleasant before dew points rise again into humid territory late in the evening. Temperatures will fall to a few degrees of 70. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Saturday): Rain chances will slowly increase over time. Areas south of the city, closer to a disturbance and moisture plume, may be rainiest. Morning showers could turn into intermittent showers and storms by mid-afternoon and around sunset. While dew points will center around the humid 70s, the heat index will remain in the low 90s thanks to clouds and rain-cooled highs within a few degrees of 85. Confidence: Low-Average

Tomorrow evening: Showers and storms may continue into the evening, but their intensity and coverage should diminish during the evening. Temperatures will fall into the sticky dew points in the upper 60s to low 70s, with patches of fog possible after midnight. Confidence: Average

Sunday: Potentially, the stationary front to our south will drop off a bit, which will improve outdoor plans somewhat. Clouds, humidity, and rain chances may be lowest in the afternoon hours. However, a shower or storm is still possible, especially south of the city closer to the front. The afternoon sun could push temperatures into the upper 80s to low 90s. Confidence: Medium

A look ahead

Sunday night: A few showers and storms are possible, perhaps after midnight. Clouds may generally increase somewhat, along with humidity. Temperatures will fall to within a few degrees of 70, which is around dew point for most of us. With relative humidity approaching 100 percent, local fog is again possible. Confidence: Low-Average

Humid with occasional showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday. A few storms could even get intense. Temperatures will continue to peak in a familiar range: the mid-80s to around 90. Since dew points will hover within a few degrees of 70, it may feel like the mid-90s at times. The greatest cloud cover and chance of rain are currently favored for Monday night into Tuesday, but the timing could change as we get closer. Confidence: Medium
