Following the Russian missile attack on the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in Kiev, Germany evacuated and admitted eight children who were previously being treated there.

This was reported by the German Ministry of the Interior.

The children, aged from a few months to 15 years, are mainly oncology patients. They are accompanied by a total of ten close relatives.

Since March 2022, seriously injured and seriously ill people have been evacuated from Ukraine and medically treated in Germany and other EU countries due to Russia’s illegal war of aggression. Nearly 1,150 people have been evacuated to Germany and treated in hospitals across the country. This includes both civilians and soldiers, many of whom have lost limbs and suffered gunshot and blast wounds.

Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser stated:

“The rocket attack on the children’s clinic in Kiev has once again demonstrated the incomprehensible inhumanity with which Putin is waging his aggressive war against Ukraine. That is why we are continuing our humanitarian support to Ukraine with all our strength. Today we are evacuating eight seriously ill children together with their close relatives who were treated in the destroyed children’s clinic. They are receiving the best possible care in Germany. Earlier, we evacuated almost 1,150 seriously injured, wounded and sick Ukrainians. This aid is a humanitarian necessity. Our clinics, aid organizations and authorities are doing an excellent job, for which I am extremely grateful.”

Federal Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach added:

“After the brutal bombing of the children’s hospital in Kiev by Vladimir Putin, we are doing everything we can to help our Ukrainian friends. The seriously ill children affected must not become victims of this criminal war of aggression any more. We will provide them with excellent care in German specialist clinics, as we immediately promised. Our aid is intended to give Ukraine hope: we will not abandon Ukraine.”
