On behalf of the players and members, the Kelmscott Bulldogs invite the public to join them in celebrating and recognizing our country’s First Nations origins through Indigenous cultural festivities.

A welcome ceremony will take place on Saturday at 3:00 PM on the main field, between the reserve men’s matches and the competition.

All five Bulldogs teams will play at home and wear the club’s first indigenous jerseys, which will be presented to supporters and spectators for the first time that day.

The native jerseys were presented to the players on June 20.

Each team’s administrators were given jerseys to share with the community, other players and supporters in the lead up to this weekend.

The Kelmscott Bulldogs Football Club Indigenous jersey combines the club’s proud 125-year history with a celebration of Aboriginal culture.

The artwork, which represents the Darling Range Hills and the Canning River where Kelmscott was founded, reflects the unity of community and families – a strong ethos espoused by Kelmscott Football Club since its inception.

The unique design was prepared by local artist and former Bulldogs player Aaron Donaldson. It was created in conjunction with a story by Trepheena Eades Hansen and in collaboration with Kelmscott Community elders.

Trepheena Hansen and Robert Turner were the first to create the club’s first Indigenous jersey, following the Bulldogs’ NAIDOC celebration last year.

With the approval of the elders, they transferred the native artwork onto a sweater design.

The jerseys were proudly donated by local member Dr. Tony Buti.

They are kept by the club for display each year at special NAIDOC and Indigenous Cultural celebrations.

Before unveiling the jersey design, the club reflected on its proud jersey history and past cultural recognitions, described by club legend Kim Turner and Aboriginal Elder Mort Hansen.

Emphasis was placed on the historic blue and white of the Bulldogs jersey; colours that have been worn by many people from different cultural backgrounds.

The jersey is the same for everyone, regardless of culture, and sets players apart as Kelmscott Bulldogs – as one.

League team tops the rankings

The Bulldogs top the standings, just a small percentage behind second-place Kenwick.

The match between the two top-ranked teams this weekend will be the deciding game at John Dunn for Kelmscott’s NAIDOC Celebrations, following the Welcome Ceremony at 3pm.

This past weekend the League played four fantastic quarters of football.

Coach Shannon Collard said the great win came from the team “sticking to the structure and the young, emerging Colts runners who were simply too strong for Baldivis”.

Rodney Jetta scored 13 goals, Callum Collard scored four goals and youngster Hayden Eades scored three.

“The delivery inside 50 to Rodney was far too good for any defender,” Shannon said. “Everything is falling into place as we start to prepare for the finals in the next four games.”

Reserves

Coach Travis Burgess believed the reserves’ victory on Saturday was down to a great team performance, with everyone playing their part perfectly.

“It just shows that one day we can compete against the best teams in the league,” Travis said.

The reserves are busy preparing for the final and trying to win as much as possible in the run-up to the top four.

Five goals were scored by Jacob Bromfield and four by Jason Green.

Baldivis 7.6 (48) lost to Kelmscott 17.7 (109).

Women

Coach Bill Hansen wanted the girls to start the game strong, and to their credit they did. The Bulldogs put Coolbinia at a distance early in the game with ten unanswered goals in the first half.

Summer Yarran put in a great show with 11 goals.

The midfield worked hard and dominated the entire game, while Zalie Betts played superbly in defense.

The undefeated women’s team, who are at the top of the table, are looking forward to this weekend’s derby against Roleystone.

Foals

Kelmscott started slowly in the first quarter and was overwhelmed by Winnacott’s lead late in the first period.

Despite their best efforts and holding the team back after the break, Kelmscott were unable to fight back.

Taiawhio Morrison was the best player with three goals.

Winnacott 17.5 (107) Kelmscott 8.7 (55) defeated Kelmscott 6.7 (43).

Integrated

Kelmscott took on unbeaten league leaders High Wycombe, who had outplayed their opponents in the early stages.

From the start, midfielders Tim Davies, Fraser Kickett Jnr and Vincent Fraser dominated the opposition, with Tim scoring the first goal within minutes.

The Bulldogs scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter, with Geoff Stewart and Josh Thompson scoring two each.

Kelmscott 9.5 (59) defeated High Wycombe 3.8 (26)

Saturday sees home games and NAIDOC celebrations at John Dunn, with Colts vs Lynwood starting at 9.20am, the women’s game from 11.15am, Reserves from 1pm and League from 3.20pm, with Integrated wrapping up a big day of football from 5.15pm.
