A California Highway Patrol spokesman told CBS News Bay Area that dispatchers were alerted to a crash involving two vehicles traveling eastbound on the eastbound span of the bridge around 2:17 p.m.
Spokesman Mark Andrews said one of the vehicles overturned in the impact and the male driver of that vehicle got out and began running east along the north shoulder, just east of the suspension portion of the span east of Treasure Island.
