US: The hotel team behind Maine’s The Viewpoint hotel has renovated and reopened a historic motel on Long Sands Beach in York as The Nevada.

The Nevada was relocated from a 70-year-old motel of the same name. The former business closed in 2021.

Designed by CR Design in collaboration with new owners Joe Lipton and Michelle Friar, The Nevada retains many of its original features resembling a U.S. Navy ship. The curved building includes a wraparound deck, giving each of the 21 rooms a private terrace.

Amenities include Lulu’s restaurant and bar with 75 seats. An outdoor dining area has fire pits.

Additional measures were taken to raise the building on stilts so that it was no longer in the flood zone. Heat pumps (for heating and air conditioning) were also installed in every room and hot water boilers with a recirculation pump were installed.

The Nevada is also a member of the Green Alliance and donates a portion of each stay to Giving Green, which directs money to evidence-backed projects. The Nevada partners with Clean The World and uses Blueland cleaning products, commercial composting, and bamboo paper products.

Owners Lipton and Friar, along with business partners Chris and Elizabeth Crane, also own the nearby luxury hotel The Viewpoint. A new spa called The Baths will launch on the property this summer.
