“The second bid (from Atalanta) was around £15m and that was of course rejected. Celtic expect a much higher fee.
“Atalanta are negotiating because Matt O’Riley is their main target for midfield. They are pushing him.
“O’Riley has already given the green light, his approval, for a transfer to Atalanta, should there be a concrete possibility of agreeing a transfer fee between the two clubs.
“He has in principle already given the green light for a long-term project that should take about five years.
“But he has given the green light for the move.”
Atalanta have a great recent record when it comes to player development, so it’s not hard to see why O’Riley would be interested in joining the Italian club as the next step in his career.
