England has begun its search for a new manager following Gareth Southgate’s departure after the team’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. Many names have been linked to the position, including Graham Potter and Eddie Howe. However, one person who is unlikely to be considered is former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who recently turned down the chance to coach the United States. Klopp cited burnout as a reason for his decision to step down from Liverpool in January, making it highly improbable that he would take on a similarly demanding role so soon after. Despite Klopp’s undeniable talent, the chances of him becoming England’s manager seem slim. Another potential candidate for the England job is Germany manager Julian Naglesmann, who could be tempted to switch to a club role for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Once the tournament is over, Naglesmann could leave his post, opening the door for Klopp to take over. However, this scenario is also speculative, and England will likely continue to explore other options for its managerial position.England has begun its search for a new manager following Gareth Southgate’s departure after the team’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. England are searching for a new manager after Gareth Southgate stepped down just two days after the Three Lions lost to Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

Goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal either side of Cole Palmer’s equaliser ensured England went down in Berlin, while Spain claimed the European Championship title. Luis de la Fuente’s side were the tournament’s best team, having defeated the two Euro 2020 finalists in Italy and England, the top two European performers at the 2022 World Cup in France and Croatia, and Euro 2024 hosts Germany.

And now, after the defeat to Spain, Southgate has stepped down as England manager. He said: “It’s time for a change and a new chapter.” Many names have been linked with the job after Southgate’s departure. Graham Potter and Eddie Howe are the two leading England managers who could take over.

There is, however, one person who will almost certainly not be available to succeed Southgate: former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Last week he turned down the chance to coach the United States, just two years before the 2026 World Cup that will be hosted there.

The USMNT’s disastrous Copa America campaign, which saw them eliminated in the group stage, led to the sacking of Gregg Berhalter, with Klopp being linked with the role. The German was offered the job but rejected overtures from the US.

While the England job could be tempting for Klopp, it seems highly unlikely that the FA would be able to convince the former Liverpool manager to become the next Three Lions manager. When Klopp announced his decision to step down as Liverpool manager in January, he cited burnout.
