Laptops for Job Hunting The SCDPPPS has distributed 21 laptops to probation and parole offices across the state. These laptops are equipped with software and programs that offenders can use to: * Create resumes and cover letters * Prepare for job interviews * Search for job openings Virtual Program Participation In addition to job hunting, the laptops can also be used to participate in virtual programs that are required for offenders under supervision, such as: * Abuse counseling * Substance abuse education * Sex offender treatment Rotating Access and Monitoring The laptops will be rotated among district offices on a schedule to ensure equitable access for offenders throughout the state. Usage will be carefully monitored to ensure responsible use. Need for Employment Assistance According to the SCDPPPS, approximately 26% of the 22,610 active offenders in the state are unemployed. This new program aims to address this issue by providing offenders with the tools they need to secure gainful employment.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS) has announced a new program that will assist offenders in their search for employment.

21 laptops are being distributed to probation and parole offices so that offenders can use them to look for work.

According to SCDPPPS, the laptops have various programs installed that can assist offenders with tasks related to job hunting (creating resumes, cover letters, PowerPoint presentations, etc.).

Inmates can also use the laptops to virtually participate in programs needed to meet the conditions of their supervision, such as abuse counseling, substance abuse education and sex offender treatment.

Depending on usage, the laptops will be moved to other district offices on a rotating schedule to improve access for offenders across the state. Additionally, usage of the laptops will be monitored, SCDPPPS said.

Of the 22,610 active offenders of SCDPPPS, approximately 26% are unemployed.
