GMA Considers Suspending Strike after Meeting with Organized LabourGMA Considers Suspending Strike after Meeting with Organized Labour The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) is considering calling off its ongoing strike action following a meeting with Organized Labour. This was announced by GMA President Dr. Frank Serebour during an interview with Accra-based Pure FM. “I am hopeful that at the end of the day, we will begin our operations fully. We will be meeting with organized labor and after that, we will communicate to you,” Dr. Serebour stated. The GMA joined Organized Labour’s nationwide strike in protest against the government’s decision to sell SSNIT-owned hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by the country’s Agriculture Minister. While the sale decision has since been rescinded, with Rock City withdrawing from the deal, Organized Labour’s strike continues. Organized Labour is demanding the dissolution of the SSNIT and NPRA boards, the dismissal of the management of SSNIT and NPRA, and the termination of the Employment and Agriculture Ministers, who were involved in the sale decision. The outcome of the GMA’s meeting with Organized Labour is expected to determine whether the medical association will resume its services. In the meantime, the nationwide strike continues to impact various sectors across the country.

Ghana Medical Association (GMA) may call off its strike action today after they meet with Organized Labour.

This was made known by Dr. Frank Serebour, the association’s president.

He made this known in an interview with Accra-based Pure FM on Monday, July 15, 2024.

“I am hopeful that at the end of the day, we will begin our operations fully. We will be meeting with organized labour and after that, we will communicate to you,” he said.

The Ghana Medical Association joined Organized Labour’s nationwide strike to force the government to rescind its decision to sell hotels belonging to SSNIT to Rock City Hotel owned by the county’s Agric Minister.

The decision to sell has been rescinded, with Rock City pulling out of the deal. However, Organized Labour’s strike continues to hold across the country.

They are demanding a dissolution of the SSNIT and NPRA board and also the sacking of the Management of SSNIT and the NPRA.

They are also demanding the immediate sack of the Employment and Agric Ministers who were involved in the decision to sell a state asset to a private individual.
