Avios: new transfers from Choice hotels

While you might associate Choice Hotels with some of the lower-priced hotel brands in the US, such as Quality Inn, you might be surprised to learn that they also operate all of the Radisson hotels. They also tend to have many hotels in Scandinavia. Here is the full list of brands:

Choice Hotels now offers you the ability to convert your loyalty points into Avios via the BA Executive Club. Exchange rates start at 5,000 points for 1,000 Avios, so this can be a convenient way to use a small number of points. You will need to collect the points via your Choice Privileges account when you stay.

Not a member yet? Then you will receive a bonus offer of 250 bonus points upon registration to receive the latest offers.

Here’s how to redeem Avios:

  • Step 1: Click on Trade Now. If you are not logged in, you will need to log in to your Choice Privileges account.
  • Step 2: To add your airline loyalty program, click Add Programs, choose the airline, and click Save Program.
  • Step 3: To link this loyalty program, click Link, enter your loyalty program details, and click Link Program.

Avios: Qantas/Emirates codeshare changes to Avios and tier points

One of the great quirks of the BA Executive Club was that you could earn tier points and Avios if you flew with Emirates, showing that you were booked on a Qantas codeshare. Now it appears that this was withdrawn at some point this year, according to reports from Flyertalk and a change in wording on the BA website. It’s not clear exactly when it was withdrawn, so if you haven’t yet submitted a claim for a previous flight it may be worth trying, as other Flyertalk posters have been awarded the correct TP and Avios in retrospect.

Here is the new text on ba.com

Previously it said

“Flights booked under the Qantas code (QF) and operated by a non-oneworld airline will earn Avios and Tier Points, unless operated by Jetstar in a class other than L class.”
