Undeterred, Jaiswal hit another six off the next delivery, creating history with 12 runs off the opening ball. This was the first time that a top-10 ranked team’s batsman had scored so many runs off the first ball of a T20I, and the fifth time that India had hit two or more sixes in the opening over of this format. Raza eventually dismissed Jaiswal for 93 runs off 53 balls, but the Indian opener’s record-breaking feat will be remembered. India chased down Zimbabwe’s total of 152/7 in 15.2 overs, with Jaiswal’s knock earning him the Player of the Match award. The match was played at the Harare Sports Club, one of the oldest cricket stadiums in the world.

On July 14, Jaiswal was gifted a free on the very first ball when Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza bowled a waist-high full toss that was happily bowled over the boundary lines, cricket.com reported.

Jaiswal didn’t spare Raza in the free-hitting either. He hit another six, taking India’s total to 13 runs from just one legal delivery, creating history.

It was the first time that a batsman from the top 10 teams had scored so many runs off the first ball, the report added. According to the report, 10 was the highest number of runs a team had scored off the first ball (Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, 2022 Asia Cup). It was also the fifth time that India had hit two or more sixes in the first over of a T20I. However, Raza had the final say, as the Zimbabwean captain bowled the southpaw off the fourth ball of the innings.

On 13 July, Zimbabwe had scored 152/7 in 20 overs. India were 156/0 in 15.2 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 93 from 53 balls while captain Gill scored 58 from 38 balls. Jaiswal was adjudged Player of the Match.

This is the 5th time in this tournament that India will face Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club, located in the capital of Zimbabwe. It was established in 1900 and is one of the oldest cricket stadiums in the world.
