A video purportedly showing the White House deputy press secretary returning to work shortly after his wife’s death has caused a stir online. The undated video shows an alleged official named Theodore Barrett holding a press conference, much to the shock and sympathy of reporters in attendance.
“Good morning everyone. Sorry I’m late, my wife just passed away,” he can be heard saying at the beginning of the video.
He spends the next two minutes answering questions about the tragedy, urging reporters to limit themselves to questions about the government.
He tells the press that his wife died in a car accident. When someone asks him if he told his children about the incident, the press officer replies that they were with his wife at the time of the accident. While his son survived, his daughter succumbed to her injuries, the man seen in the video replies.
The reporter then asks, “Any comments from the President on Kim Jong Un’s latest statement about North Korea’s nuclear facility?” To which he replies, “I was not at the President’s morning briefing when I identified my wife’s body. But I will look into it and will be happy to answer any questions later today.”
Before Theodore Barrett ends the press conference, he says the next briefing may be postponed if his wife’s funeral takes too long.
