A frustrated resident waited more than two months for his waste container, which he had paid for, to arrive

Peter Jackson, 81, woke up on April 29 this year to find the grey bin missing from his Harwood home.

He called the council to ask for a new bin, but was told he would have to pay for it.

Mr Jackson, of Roading Brook Road, did as he was asked and paid £34 for the replacement.

It wasn’t until Thursday, July 11, that he finally got the job, more than two months after his initial application.

In the meantime, he said he had to drive eight miles each way from Harwood to the Raikes Lane dump to dispose of his rubbish.

He said: “They said it would be a bit later, which is fine, so I went to the dump every week to throw away the kitchen waste.

“I’ve been going almost every week for the last three months, a thirteen-kilometre round trip, and I’m 81 now – although I think I’ll at least be out of the house by then!”

“I spoke to people and was put on hold for 30 minutes, I was just passed from one person to another. There was no one who could do anything positive.

“I was just going around in circles to be honest. I’ve never seen anything more pathetic in my life.”

But last week the trash can finally arrived.

Mr Jackson said: “When I looked out the window on Thursday it had just arrived!

“I had to laugh at the delivery guy, because he’s just doing his job. It’s just the incompetence of the people in the council.

“I filed a complaint with the council. It was a nightmare, to be honest.”

A Bolton Council spokesman said: “The delivery was noted as being delivered within three weeks of the order date, but unfortunately we believe it was delivered to the wrong address.

“We are currently investigating this. A new container was delivered to the correct address on Thursday.

“We apologize for the delay in resolving this matter.

“The current delivery time for grey bins is 3-4 weeks.”
