Despite initially falling behind Tadej Pogacar, Vingegaard rallied to secure the yellow jersey and prevail in the final sprint. “It’s incredibly emotional,” Vingegaard said. “I crashed three months ago, and it was a close call. I thought I might die. Now I’m here, winning a stage at the world’s biggest race. It’s unbelievable.” Reflecting on his arduous recovery, Vingegaard added, “I don’t believe anyone could reach their peak fitness with only a month and a half of training. But I’m proud of what I’ve overcome. I’ll approach the next weeks day by day.” Vingegaard’s indomitable spirit and remarkable resurgence have made him a beacon of inspiration and resilience in the world of cycling.

Jonas Vingegaard was very emotional after a wonderful day in the Tour de France, in which the Dane was initially passed by Tadej Pogacar, but then delivered another enormous performance by taking the yellow jersey and beating him in the final sprint.

“It’s very, very emotional for me of course. Coming back from the crash…” Vingegaard said. “It means a lot. Everything I’ve been through the last three months… Yeah, it reminds you of that. I couldn’t have done this without my family.”

“I mean, with the crash I had three months ago, I really thought I was going to die,” Vingegaard said. “Now to be sitting here with a stage win in the biggest race in the world is just incredible. I never thought I would get this far.”
