Three fire engines from Stowmarket, Elmswell, and Bury St Edmunds responded to the scene. Contrary to initial concerns, the fire was isolated to a meter cupboard, not the thatched roof. Firefighters employed dry powder to extinguish the blaze. UK Power Networks has been informed of the incident. While the fire has been extinguished, firefighters remain on the scene to monitor the situation and perform aftercare assessments.

This evening, emergency services were called to a fire on a thatched plot in a village.

Three fire engines, from Stowmarket, Elmswell and Bury St Edmunds, were sent to the incident in Elmswell Road, Wetherden, at 8.03pm.

A fire department spokesman said the fire was in a meter cupboard and not in the thatched roof.
