He emphasized the importance of avoiding insults and humiliations, stressing that such behavior signifies weakness rather than strength. Gandhi’s statement comes after some individuals criticized Irani for vacating her official bungalow following her defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. The former Congress president urged everyone to treat their political opponents with respect and to avoid engaging in nasty or offensive remarks. However, the BJP’s IT chief, Amit Malviya, accused Gandhi of hypocrisy, alleging that he had unleashed Congress leaders on Irani like a pack of wolves. Malviya claimed that Gandhi’s message was dishonest, given that he had previously supported the attacks on Irani. Despite the criticisms, Gandhi’s appeal underscores the need for civil discourse and mutual respect among political leaders. He emphasized that winning and losing are part of life and that it is essential to maintain a sense of decency and dignity, even in the face of defeat. Recent events, including the defeat of former minister Smriti Irani, have sparked discussions about the importance of respectful behavior in politics. Gandhi’s statement serves as a reminder that public discourse should be characterized by civility and a willingness to engage in constructive dialogue, even when ideological differences exist.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha on Friday appealed to the people not to use derogatory language or make nasty remarks about former minister Smriti Irani or other leaders.

His comments come after some people criticised Irani for leaving her official bungalow following her defeat in the Lok Sabha elections against Congress MP Kishori Lal Sharma from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi.

“Winning and losing happens in life. I urge everyone not to use derogatory language and be mean to Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader,” Gandhi said on X.

“Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength,” the former Congress president said.

BJP’s IT chief Amit Malviya hit out at Gandhi, accusing him of spreading a dishonest message after unleashing Congress leaders on her like a pack of wolves.

Malviya said on X: “This is the most dishonest message ever. After unleashing Congress leaders like a pack of wolves on the woman who defeated him in Amethi and smashing his arrogance to pieces, this is rich. All this gibberish does not change the fact that Smt Smriti Irani forced Balak Buddhi to leave Amethi.” Irani vacated her official bungalow at 28 Tughlak Crescent in Lutyens’ Delhi, weeks after she was defeated from her parliamentary seat in Amethi by Sharma, a close associate of the Gandhi family, by a margin of over 1.6 lakh votes.
