Homeschooling gives you the freedom to choose what you teach outside of the national curriculum. But what about what this mother does?
Forget spending hours studying math, this mom chooses to prepare her kids for the rest of their lives so they ‘never have to work a day in their lives if they don’t want to.’
Amanda Custer is a 38-year-old mother of three who decides to teach her children a controversial lesson in order to become successful.
When Custer decided to get into financial asset trading four years ago, she realized all she had to do was adapt it to her life with her kids and she could have it all.
Amanda now teaches others how to trade through her business, Forex For Women, and maintains a good work-life balance at home.

Today, she spends just 15 minutes a day trading and lets her children schedule their own day, which includes about 2 hours a day for schoolwork.
She does this because she wants them to have the freedom to use their financial skills so that they don’t have to work hard in the future.
Her children, Adalyn, 12, Lucille, 10, and Anniston, 9, mix their days with play and pretend trading lessons so they can gain the skills they’ll need once they turn 18.
The California mom told Absolutely Business: “During the week between dance, sports, art and enrichment classes, they have complete control over when they complete their lessons.”
Once they have finished their schoolwork, the children have ‘complete freedom to choose activities’. These could be ‘a day at the beach’ or ‘cycling’, for example.

She explains: “My husband and I are both entrepreneurs, so we have complete control over our own schedules.
“I usually get up at 6am. My girls wake up around 8am and spend their mornings quietly eating breakfast or playing outside.
“The majority of their day consists of activities with other homeschooling friends, whether it’s a trip to the pool, the beach, a museum, or a meet-up at the park.”
As someone who works with Forex, she knew this was a passion that would allow her to “create a system that made trading passive” so she could be “fully present” in her children’s lives.

She said: “My kids don’t trade live in the markets because they’re not 18 yet, so I’m now teaching them how to read charts and understand what’s going on, how to take trading opportunities and more.”
Thanks to demo broker accounts, the girls are currently in ‘successful positions’ and know what they are talking about.
Amanda added: “I teach them that our goal is not to predict what’s going to happen next in the market. It’s to take advantage of what’s happening right now.”
Online, the controversy quickly erupted, with one person mockingly saying that they wanted to “teach their children the value of hard work,” and another criticizing her for letting her children gamble.
Others found her approach liberating. One wrote: “People are critical of you, but honestly, you’re not doing anything bad. You’re literally teaching them to LIVE, not to exist.”
