The company, known for its signature square burgers made to order, has signed a development agreement with a franchisee in the Republic of Ireland as part of its European expansion plans. The Dublin, Ohio-based brand will open its first locations next year with ambitious plans to establish 30 restaurants over the next decade. Simultaneously, Wendy’s has inked a development deal in Romania, aiming to open 50 stores in the same timeframe. This expansion marks Wendy’s re-entry into the UK market since its departure in 2000. Wendy’s President of International, EJ Wunsch, expressed the company’s commitment to becoming a globally recognized brand. He emphasized Europe’s significance as a growth market for Wendy’s, with a focus on expanding its international presence. Michael Clarke, Wendy’s Managing Director for Europe, described the expansion as an “exciting time” and acknowledged the high demand for the brand among customers. He added, “We are ready to meet demand by bringing more Wendy’s to more people – putting our fresh, high-quality and delicious food in the hands of European consumers where they live, work and play.” Wendy’s has a long-standing history, founded in 1969. It currently operates over 7,000 restaurants worldwide in more than 30 markets. Its international presence accounts for 70% of the brand’s projected growth through 2025.

The company, known for its square burgers made to order, has signed a development agreement with a franchisee in the Republic of Ireland as part of its European expansion plans. The Dublin, Ohio-based brand will open its first locations next year with plans to open 30 restaurants over the next decade.

A development deal has also been signed in Romania, with the aim of opening 50 stores there in the same period. Wendy’s re-entered the UK market in 2021, after leaving in 2000.

Speaking about the Irish launch, Wendy’s President of International, EJ Wunsch, said: “We continue our journey to become a brand of increasing global significance, and Europe is a strategic growth market with high priority to expand Wendy’s presence internationally.”

The company’s managing director for Europe, Michael Clarke, called the expansion an “exciting time”, adding: “Fans of the brand and customers keep asking us, ‘Where is Wendy’s opening next?’”

“We are ready to meet demand by bringing more Wendy’s to more people – putting our fresh, high-quality and delicious food in the hands of European consumers where they live, work and play.”
