HALSTAD, Minn. (KFGO) – Officials with Riverview Dairy are reaching out to potential neighbors to discuss a proposed new 25,000-head dairy facility in Traill County, North Dakota.

On Tuesday, Riverview LLP, based in Morris, Minnesota, hosted an “open house” at the old school gymnasium in Halstad, Minnesota, to talk to community members about the proposed dairy in neighboring Herberg Township in Traill County, just across the Red River.

Damon Knobloch, Vice President of Operations at Riverview, was on hand to answer questions about electricity, water usage, employee housing, manure management and more.

“Yes, that’s absolutely right. Those are the kinds of questions – just different parts of the project – how will it impact the local community, what’s the net result for local businesses, local neighbors, local farmers, how does that impact them? And then we just want to be available so that they can ask questions. We can give tours. We can go to other dairy locations and show them, ‘Okay, this is what this looks like.’ If they’re not available to do that, we can answer questions here. So it’s a really good opportunity for us to meet people, answer questions, and build relationships.”

Even though people couldn’t make it to the open house in Halstad on Tuesday, Knobloch said Riverview staff are still available to answer questions.

“On the west side of the school here, we renovated the old music room and some of the offices. And so, the information boards that we have here today, we’re going to put up in the old music room, and then there are three of us who spend a fair amount of time in the local community. So they can reach out to us, and we can take them one-on-one, or we can take them to the Waukon Dairy, which is relatively close by. We can also give a tour. So yeah, anyone who missed today, we’d love to pass along some similar information.”

Waukon Dairy of Riverview, located on 400 acres in Waukon Township, eight miles southeast of Gary, Minnesota, began milking in June 2022.

The main office number to contact a Riverview representative is 320-392-5609. You can also visit their website at riverviewllp.com.
