The manatee, an adult female named “Right on Florida,” was found stranded and emaciated in the shallows near Matlacha in December 2022. Wildlife officials transported her to SeaWorld Orlando for specialized care. Upon arrival, Right on Florida was treated for malnourishment, dehydration, and respiratory issues. The SeaWorld team provided her with round-the-clock care, including tube feeding, fluid therapy, and medication. Over time, she gradually regained her strength and appetite. “Right on Florida’s rehabilitation was a testament to the incredible dedication of our animal care team,” said Dr. Natalie Davis, a veterinarian at SeaWorld Orlando. “Her progress was remarkable, and we were thrilled to be able to return her to the wild.” On a sunny morning, SeaWorld staff transported Right on Florida back to Matlacha. She was gently placed on a floating platform and released into the water. With a graceful glide, she disappeared beneath the surface, her newly healed body returning to the home she once knew. The release was a joyous occasion for the team at SeaWorld and the community of Matlacha.
