GREELEY, Colo. – A 28-year-old woman has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2022 shooting death of a Greeley woman.

A jury on Tuesday found Mary Alicia Garcia guilty of the murder of 21-year-old Herminia Marquez.

Marquez was found by police on November 28, 2022, with a gunshot wound on E. 24th Street Lane and was later pronounced dead.

Greeley Police officers arrested Garcia in January 2023. He was on probation when the shooting occurred.

“Minnie was a joyful and loving woman with a heart full of dreams and aspirations,” Marquez’s father said in a statement. “The pain of losing a child is a burden no parent should ever have to bear. The sadness we feel is overwhelming.”

Garcia was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

“The pain and devastation that has consumed me since that day is indescribable,” Marquez’s mother said. “Life will never be the same because a part of my heart died that day. Losing her has left a void that nothing can fill.”
