New York Mets Over 5.5 Runs Team TotalNew York Mets Over 5.5 Runs Team Total Today’s MLB schedule includes evening games, and one of the most anticipated matchups is the New York Mets facing a left-handed starter. Mets’ Dominance Against Left-Handed Pitching In the past six weeks, the Mets have excelled against left-handed pitching, ranking among the top three teams in batting average, slugging percentage, wOBA, wRC+, and ISO. Patrick Corbin’s Struggles The Mets’ opponent today, Patrick Corbin, has struggled with left-handed batters, allowing a .323 batting average. Addition of J.D. Martinez The Mets’ offense has been further bolstered by the addition of J.D. Martinez, who joins a lineup that already includes Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Francisco Álvarez, and Brandon Nimmo. Umpire’s Influence The home plate umpire for today’s game is Carlos Torres, who is known for generating an increase in runs, slugging percentage, and batting average for hitters. Recommendation Given the Mets’ dominance against left-handers, Corbin’s struggles, the addition of Martinez, and the favorable umpire assignment, the New York Mets are a strong play to score over 5.5 runs today.

It’s Wednesday in Major League Baseball, which means there are day games all day long, as well as some tasty evening programming. Today, we’re focusing on one of the evening games.

New York Mets More than 5.5 points Team Total

Leave it to me to call another free play a homer play, but the Mets have been a cash cow against left-handed pitching the past six weeks or so. Now, not only do they face a left-handed starter, but they also get Patrick Corbin, who has seen opponents hit .323 while he hits .505.

Since June 1, the Mets rank second in batting average, second in slugging percentage, second in wOBA, second in wRC+, and third in ISO vs. left-handed pitching. With the addition of J.D. Martinez to the lineup, as well as mainstays Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Francisco Álvarez and Brandon Nimmo, the Mets show no signs of slowing down on offense this split.

Finally, Carlos Torres will be behind the plate in New York. According to SwishAnalytics, Torres generates a 1.07x boost to runs, 1.05x boost to slugging percentage, and 1.04x boost to batting average, making him one of the more hitter-friendly umpires in the league. I gave the Mets over a 4.5 team total to subscribers earlier this morning, but I still like this play with 5.5 runs given the matchup and the umpiring assignment.
