Jamieson Community Center expands to Main Street in Monmouth.

The organization purchased the former Tom and Linda’s grocery store at 1120 S. Main St. The plan is to move the Community Marketplace there.

“In the new space, we want to have our thrift store and food bank, as well as a resource person that families can contact if they want,” Executive Director Nancy Mowen said. “We will also have an area dedicated to resources from other agencies that are available to people who live here.”

Currently, the Community Marketplace is located at the Jamieson Community Center’s main location at 1025 S. Second St.

The new space offers more room for the food bank and the thrift store.

“We want to make sure that literally anyone can walk in and get the supplies they need,” Mowen said.

Jamieson Community Center provides meal programs, educational opportunities and access to essential items at an affordable price in Warren, Henderson and Mercer counties.

“I think all of our programs that we have are important to the community. Last year we helped over 5,000 people through all of our programs combined,” Mowen said.

The new space also creates a new position for a dedicated liaison who will assist local families and connect them with appropriate resources in the community.

“I see someone with a background in social work who understands how people can get ahead and what tools can help them get there,” Mowen said.

The renovation of the new space is still ongoing. The interior of the building has been stripped, the roof has been replaced, and new windows and doors have been installed. There is also a new sidewalk in front of the building.

The Pattee Foundation assisted Jamieson Community Center with the purchase of the building to help meet food security, basic needs, and academic and learning goals.

It was purchased in April for $490,000.

“Everything we do, everything we do in this community, is because we have so many philanthropic people, so many caring people, and we work very closely with many other organizations,” Mowen said. “It’s all a collaborative effort and we’re grateful to be here to help people.”

There is no planned opening date yet for the new building.
