On July 8, Russian forces attacked the Okhmatdyt hospital with a Kh-101 cruise missile following a predetermined route, a police source told the Kyiv Independent.

According to a source in one of Ukraine’s top security services, the attack was deliberate.

The Russian army has the Okhmatdyt HospitalUkraine’s largest children’s hospital on the morning of July 8, leaving at least two people dead and at least 16 injured, including seven children, according to local authorities.

Fragments of the rear of the Kh-101 cruise missile with a serial number and part of the missile’s rudder were found at the crime scene, the State Security Service reported earlier in the day.

The source confirmed that the attack was carried out with the Kh-101 cruise missile, citing video footage obtained at the time of the attack.

The appearance of the missile in the video matches the design of the Kh-101 cruise missile, the source said. This is indicated by two wings in the lower part of the missile and three control rudders.

“There is an engine in front of the rudders in the lower part of the missile fuselage,” the source added.

“This is typical of the Kh-101 missile, where the engine protrudes from the missile body after launch from an aircraft.”

The source said that given the path the missile took in the video, it was aimed squarely at the hospital.

“The missile was not damaged by air defense systems and hit exactly the target it was programmed for,” the source said.

Russia launched a massive missile attack on Kiev and other cities in Ukraine on the morning of July 8, killing at least 36 civilians and wounding 149 others, the State Emergency Service said.

According to the Air Force report, Ukrainian forces shot down 30 of the 38 missiles fired at Ukraine on the morning of July 8.
