Hart’s pronunciation issues extended to Tyler Kolek, the 34th overall pick, as he pronounced his name as “Ko-leek” instead of “Ko-leck.” Hart also addressed the urban legend that Kolek is illiterate, attributing its origin to an apparent parody account on Twitter. Despite his pronunciation struggles, Hart is eager to get to know his new teammates and help them prepare for the upcoming Summer League in Las Vegas. The Knicks will face the Charlotte Hornets in their first game on Saturday.
If Josh Hart takes the ball from Pacome Dadiet when they take the court for the New York Knicks next season, he might have to come up with a nickname.
The humorous Hart needs a pronunciation guide for one of his newest teammates, as the Knicks in their third year accidentally messed up the name of Dadiet, the first of four prospects to receive the metropolitan draft pick during the recent NBA Draft, in the latest edition of the web series “Roommates Show.”
The correct pronunciation of the Knicks’ first-round pick as a teenager is “Pa-comb Da-dee-ay.” However, Hart opted for the phonetic version to announce Dadiet’s arrival, much to the amusement of co-hosts Jalen Brunson and Matt Hillman.
“With the 25th pick, we got…Pa-comey…Da-dee…da-diet?” Hart explained. Entrepreneur Hillman tries to save Hart’s mispronunciation by saying, “If you’re eating healthy, you’re on ‘da diet.’”
Brunson, who foresaw Hart’s problems when Hillman broached the subject (“Let Josh do it!”), has no problem with Dadiet’s name.
Hart is already in disbelief at Dadiet’s pronunciation, but he also stumbles over Tyler Kolek’s seemingly easier last name, choosing “Ko-leek” instead of “Ko-leck.” Another successful Big East alumnus who came out of Marquette instead of Brunson and Hart’s Villanova, Kolek was the 34th pick of the draft and the first of three New York selections in the second round.
Hart also appears to be among those taken aback by the Big East urban legend that Kolek is illiterate, a report that originated from an apparent parody account on X. He blamed Hillman for sending the tweet that spawned canon fodder used by opposing student sections.
Hart is expected to get plenty of practice pronouncing the names of Dadiet, Kolek and other metropolitan newcomers starting next weekend, as the New York rookies and prospects open Summer League play in Las Vegas against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday (5 p.m. ET, ESPN2).
