Accra, July 6, GNA – Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, Minister of Health, on Friday presented 40 pick-up vehicles to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to support the service’s health care delivery in the country.

Dr Okoe Boye presented the vehicles in Accra and noted that the GHS is the primary agent for the delivery of health care to the public. It is therefore essential that the GHS is adequately resourced to scale up its activities.

He said: “We have hospitals, health centres, CHPS complexes across the country that have to travel through our highways to get medicines, we have occasions where doctors have to be brought from the districts or from hospitals to the districts to do outreach, we have district directors in distant locations who have to move to remote areas to ensure that vaccines for children are delivered and that the delivery is also monitored.

“I am therefore pleased to present these 40 pick-ups on behalf of the Akufo-Addo government and the Ministry to the Ghana Health Service to promote healthcare in the country.”

Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Director-General of GHS, who received the vehicles on behalf of the agency, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health and described the presentation as a “timely intervention”.

He said the vehicles would go a long way in facilitating the movement of personnel, providing information, awareness raising programmes and delivering services, especially in the remotest parts of the country.

Dr Kuma-Aboagye said the vehicles would undergo regular maintenance and each vehicle would be fitted with a tracking device so that its location is known at all times and misuse can be prevented.
