Authorities believe a driver suspected of being under the influence was speeding at approximately 90 mph when their vehicle collided with another. The driver of the second vehicle, a pregnant woman, sustained injuries. Her two young children were also injured and transported to Riley Children’s Hospital, where one is listed in critical condition while the other is in stable condition. Authorities discovered a male passenger in the suspect’s vehicle deceased in a nearby ditch. Preliminary findings suggest he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The suspected driver was arrested at the scene following a confrontation with officers. In addition to the two vehicles directly involved in the collision, six others on Reisner Street were impacted. The Indianapolis Police Department urges anyone with information about the crash to contact Detective Red Anderson or Crime Stoppers.

INDIANAPOLIS – Police are investigating after a multi-vehicle crash in southwest Indy early Saturday morning left one person dead and several others injured.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to multiple reports of a personal injury crash in the 1200 block of South Reisner Street just after 12:30 p.m. Police say at least one person died in the crash.

Investigators believe a man suspected of driving under the influence was driving at a high rate of speed, reaching speeds of about 90 mph. The driver crashed into a second vehicle, injuring a pregnant woman who was driving and two children in her car.

The woman was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition, police said. Meanwhile, the children were taken to Riley Hospital, one of whom is in critical condition. The other child is said to be in stable condition, police said.

Investigators say a male passenger in the suspect vehicle was thrown from the car and found in a nearby ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Investigators do not believe he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

According to police, the driver was arrested on the spot after a fight with officers.

In addition to the two vehicles involved in the crash, six other vehicles were hit on Reisner Street, police said.
