BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The East Baton Rouge Metro Council has approved Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome’s proposal to redevelop the River Center complex and build a new headquarters hotel.

The EBR Metro Council in March approved an ordinance to support a new $300 million entertainment and sports center proposed by LSU, which would allow Broome to create more convention space and build a hotel near the River Center.

The redevelopment of Broome is expected to cost $120 million.

The project will be overseen by a multi-representative committee. The ordinance said the District 10 council member will chair the committee. The current District 10 council member is Carolyn Coleman. Broome’s nomination has not yet been announced.
