With an ambitious target of 40,000 trees, the department has already planted 8,500 trees, with plans to complete the remaining 32,000 in the upcoming months, according to Chief Garden Superintendent Vijay Patil. Recognizing the importance of improving air quality, CSMC has implemented innovative strategies such as creating vertical gardens at significant locations and nullahs. These gardens not only enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal but also contribute to air purification. Monthly assessments conducted by the central and state governments indicate that the city’s air quality has improved significantly. To mitigate the increasing pollution caused by rising vehicle numbers, the municipality has established a comprehensive tree-planting program. Additionally, to preserve the newly planted trees, a dedicated water tank system has been installed, as per Patil’s statement. Despite incurring substantial expenses in seedling preparation, CSMC offers seedlings at a nominal price of Rs. 10 each. Notably, former corporators are eligible for 100 free seedlings. Seedlings are meticulously cultivated at the nursery in Siddharth Garden, with civic officials collecting seeds from the streets before the monsoon. Over 20 varieties of seedlings are currently available, ensuring a diverse selection for the city’s landscaping needs.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The garden department of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) plants thousands of trees every year. This year, the department was supposed to plant 40,000 trees and so far 8,500 trees have been planted. The remaining 32,000 trees will be planted in the next three months, Chief Garden Superintendent Vijay Patil said.

Over the last two to three years, CSMC has focused on improving the air quality of the city. To this end, it has created vertical gardens at major squares and circles (intersections) and nullahs in the city. These gardens not only improve the aesthetics but also help keep the air clean. The air quality is assessed monthly by the central and state governments, and recently it was confirmed that the air in the city is clean. The number of vehicles in the city is increasing rapidly every year. To prevent the rise in pollution levels, the municipal corporation plants a large number of trees every year. The civic body has also set up a special water tank system and infrastructure to maintain the trees, Patil said.

The CSMC is incurring considerable expenses to prepare seedlings. However, it will provide seedlings for just Rs 10 each. Moreover, former corporators will get 100 seedlings free of cost. The work of preparing seedlings is going on at the nursery in Siddharth Garden. To prepare the seedlings, civic officials are collecting seeds from the streets before the monsoon. Patil said that more than 20 varieties of seedlings are ready.
