According to a report by Boeing, approximately 125,000 new avionics technicians will need to be added to the workforce over the next 20 years to meet the growing needs of the U.S. aerospace industry.

The PIA School for Aviation Maintenance and Winner Aviation are collaborating on a new program to provide students with hands-on experience with aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs) to solve this problem.

According to a PIA press release, the program offers students the opportunity to shadow AMTs and provide them with personalized mentoring and expert career preparation. This is for eligible PIA Youngstown students.

“PIA graduates are in high demand in the aviation industry and our new job shadowing program in partnership with Winner Aviation ensures our alumni are even better prepared for the job,” said Joe DeRamo, PIA Youngstown Campus Director.

Students who have completed the first two semesters of their studies at PIA are eligible for the program.

These students will spend 90 minutes per day at Winner Aviation, two days a week for six weeks.

During that time, students will work on developing their aircraft maintenance skills, expanding their networks, receiving career guidance, and potentially being offered a job by Winner after graduation.

“By pairing participants with experienced mentors within our organization, this immersive experience provides them with valuable knowledge, skills, and a deep understanding of their field, as well as the ability to make informed career decisions,” said Mandy Lundstrom, HR Manager at Winner Aviation.
