(WSAV) – The Atlanta Braves start a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants tonight with a special focus off the field. The team is launching a campaign to get 40-year-old reliever Jesse Chavez to this year’s All-Star Game in Dallas. Chavez has pitched 34 innings this season with a 1.32 ERA, giving up only four runs and compiling a 1-1 record. While it is uncommon for a relief pitcher who is not a closer to make the All-Star team, Chavez’s performance has been exceptional. To show their support, Braves players wore shirts in the clubhouse that read “Chavez ’24.” Minter Returns After Month-Long Absence On the pitching front, AJ Minter is back on the mound for the Braves after missing over a month with a left hip impingement. Minter last appeared in a big league game on May 29. Minter has a 5-3 record this season with three blown saves, one save, and an ERA of 2.9. Arcia Out with Infected Tooth Shortstop Orlando Arcia will not play tonight due to an infected tooth. Manager Brian Snitker announced the injury earlier this afternoon. Game one of the series against the San Francisco Giants starts tonight at 7:20 p.m. Reynaldo Lopez, who has a 1.70 ERA, will start for the Braves.

ATLANTA, Ga. (WSAV) – The first pitch of the series between Atlanta and San Francisco is tonight. Shortstop Orlando Arcia is out tonight with an infected tooth.

Manager Brian Snitker says he learned of the injury earlier this afternoon.

Braves relief pitcher AJ Minter is back. His last appearance in the big leagues was on May 29. He missed a little over a month with a left hip impingement and was removed from the injured list yesterday.

So far this season, he has a 5-3 record with three blown saves and one save, and an era just under three at 2.9.

“A little longer than I would have liked,” Minter said. “But I can’t say enough good things about the bullpen carrying the workload.”

Braves players in the clubhouse wore shirts that read “Chavez ’24,” symbolizing a campaign to bring the 40-year-old reliever to Dallas for this year’s All-Star Game.

It would be unusual for a relief pitcher (other than a closer) to become an All-Star, but his numbers are good: 34 innings pitched, 1.32 ERA, only four runs given up, 1-1 record.

Game one of the three-game series with the San Francisco Giants starts tonight at 7:20 p.m. and Reynaldo Lopez is on the mound. His ERA is 1.70.
