Harvick empathizes with Reddick’s frustration, noting the numerous close calls and missed opportunities he has experienced this season. Kevin Harvick understand why Tyler Reddick was dejected after Sunday’s Nashville Cup Series race. On Kevin Harvick’s Happy HourHarvick explained why Reddick wasn’t happy with his third-place finish at the Ally 400.

“I think Tyler Reddick knows he should have won more races than he won, that’s my opinion,” Harvick said. “I think he’s frustrated by the fact that he didn’t win. His car was a lot faster than Joey Logano‘s at the end. He tried that topline both laps there at the end, and Logano just drove him up the hill and airblocked him and he left himself no options.

“I think he’s just frustrated that he hasn’t won as many races as he thinks he should have won. He’s had so many heartbreaking moments this year, whether it’s Vegas or Nashville. He was way faster than the cars around him. Logano did a good job. He definitely took the line and pushed him out of the groove. But there was a whole other track down there that was just as much faster than his car. So I think he’s frustrated with himself and the fact that he hasn’t won as many races as he thinks he should have won.”

Reddick spoke about the race at the Actions that are harmful podcast and explained what happened at the end of the race. “I don’t know if we just missed the adjustment a little bit, didn’t adjust enough, but from that point on until the end of the race we were just too tight,” Reddick said, speaking about a restart with about 60 to 70 laps to go. “Couldn’t make any moves, couldn’t go anywhere, so that was definitely frustrating.”

Tyler Reddick on the ‘wrong approach’ at Nashville

Later in the podcast, Reddick talked about the end of the race and planning for Logano to run out of gas. “I feel like I was there with one to go. I mean, I’ve been negatively impacted all day by the Big Arc in the late Apex and have had virtually no success getting within two or three car contacts of someone who was at the bottom and did that. If that happened, I would just lose my run. I wouldn’t be close for a lap or a lap and a half.

“I was really hoping that (Logano) would take that approach that I’d seen others take all day. At the time, I didn’t know that when he raced the 14 (Chase Briscoe), he raced him in a similar fashion, really ran the track, ran him out of space. Not knowing that the restart before he passed the 14 like that, I probably had the wrong approach.”

Reddick won the Talladega race in April, meaning he secured a spot in the playoffs, and he’s looking to build on what he accomplished last season, when he finished sixth in the standings in his first year with 23XI Racing.
