Ginger Hotels, operated by Roots Corporation Ltd (RCL), a subsidiary of the Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), has 11 properties in operation with 876 rooms in the East and Northeast regions and seven in the pipeline with an expected addition of 605 rooms. However, none of the seven properties will be developed in Nagaland.

The brand is reportedly looking to capitalise on the growth India is seeing outside the metropolitan cities, into smaller towns.

“It’s very interesting. We talk about how the India story is filtering down to more than just the top 10 cities… I think that’s really playing a role in our expansion,” Deepika Rao, Executive Vice President – New Business and Hotel Openings at IHCL, told PTI.

The seven hotels in the pipeline in Patna, Kolkata, Asansol, Paradeep, Guwahati, Jorhat and Dibrugarh will be commissioned in two to three years, said Rao, who is also chairman of Roots Corporation.

On the importance of the Eastern and Northeastern markets, she said that of the total 91 Ginger Hotels, of which 66 are operated by IHCL, 18 are in the Eastern and Northeastern region, accounting for almost 20 percent.

It has the potential to grow further as Ginger already has a ‘dominant presence’ in other parts of India.

“We can easily double our footprint here (East and Northeast) in the medium term. It really has the potential to double and we are evaluating many more opportunities in this part. I am sure we can double this footprint in the medium term in the next three to five years,” Rao asserted.

The markets in the East and Northeast of Ginger attract guests from various segments, from corporates, small and medium enterprises, leisure and family enthusiasts to people from the sports world for various sporting events.

In FY24, the brand posted total revenues of Rs 486 crore, up 34 percent from the previous fiscal year.

Ginger Hotels has indicated that it aims to increase its total number of hotels from 91 currently to 125 by 2025.
