Seeing all the hard work their residents put into their gardens and flower beds, the RM of Sifton and the Oak Lake and Area Garden Club have decided to host their first annual Garden Competition!

“I actually had someone come to me with the idea,” said Rachelle Stannage, Economic Development Officer for the RM of Sifton. “He knew there were a lot of people in our community who put a lot of work and effort into their gardens and flower beds, so we wanted to do something to promote that for them and showcase our community at the same time.”

All entries must include the color red in their landscaping plan and should ideally include special features such as statues and ponds or fountains. “And then we really pushed for flower beds or gardens that will help our pollinators like bees and other insects. They get extra points for that too.”

You can submit your own garden or nominate someone else who lives in Oak Lake.

Nominations must be submitted by July 6, and the winner will be announced on July 13. All photo entries will be exhibited at the Oak Lake Agricultural Fair.
