Ian Wright’s Post-Arsenal CareerIan Wright’s Post-Arsenal Career Ian Wright, an Arsenal legend, left the club in 1998 after winning the Premier League title. Despite his glorious seven-year stint under George Graham, Bruce Rioch, and Arsene Wenger, becoming the club’s top scorer until Thierry Henry surpassed him, his career post-Arsenal faced challenges. Following his departure from Highbury, Wright played for West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Celtic, and Burnley before retiring in 2000. These spells proved unsuccessful, leaving Wright with unfulfilled aspirations. Millwall Dreams Wright revealed that he yearned to play for Millwall, a club he had supported since childhood. He attended Millwall matches with his family as a boy and expressed his desire to represent the south-east London club. However, despite his affection for Millwall, his dream of playing for them didn’t materialize. London Connections Beyond Arsenal, Wright had connections with other London clubs. He had an affection for West Ham, his former team after Arsenal, and maintained a strong bond with former Arsenal teammates Kevin Campbell and David Rocastle. However, Millwall remained the club that held a special place in his heart. Regrets and Recollections Wright never played for Millwall, but his exceptional career at Arsenal and Crystal Palace, where he excelled as a goalscorer, likely mitigated any regrets. While his post-Arsenal journey may not have met expectations, his legacy as an Arsenal legend endures.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright left the club in 1998 after winning the Premier League title, but the rest of his career did not go to plan.

Wright enjoyed seven glorious years at Arsenal under George Graham, Bruce Rioch and Arsene Wenger. He became the top scorer in the club’s history until Thierry Henry broke his record a few years later.

The Englishman recently revealed he knew his time at Highbury was coming to an end after a skating incident that angered Wenger, and with Nicolas Anelka the main striker at Arsenal, Wright’s time in north London had come to a natural end .

The striker later played for West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Celtic and Burnley before retiring in 2000. None of these spells were particularly successful.

Wright would have joined another club if he could have, and he revealed he was actually desperate to play for Millwall before he retired.

Ian Wright revealed desire to play for Millwall after leaving Arsenal

Wright told the BBC in 2020 that he went to Millwall matches with his family as a child and that he wanted to play for the south-east London club.

‘I’ve been going to Millwall since I was nine when I used to go and stay with my aunt Sally in Deptford, so I went to Millwall then,’ he revealed.

“I love it, I loved coming to Millwall when I was younger, it’s the only team I wanted to play for but obviously that didn’t work out. And then when I eventually went to Burnley I really wanted to go to Millwall to finish my career but that didn’t happen.”

Wright is best known for his time at Arsenal and Crystal Palace, where he was a goalscorer, but he also has connections with other clubs in London.

The former England star has clearly been fond of Millwall since childhood, but played for their bitter rivals West Ham, for whom he also had an affection.

Wright had a strong bond with Arsenal and enjoyed a strong relationship with the late Kevin Campbell and David ‘Rocky’ Rocastle during his early playing days at the club.

He never got to play for Millwall, but Wright did enjoy an excellent career at Arsenal and Palace which he probably has few regrets about.
