Obituary for Arlene Caroline YarmerObituary for Arlene Caroline Yarmer Arlene Caroline Yarmer, an 86-year-old resident of Russell and Barton counties, Kansas, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Great Bend, Kansas. Life and Legacy Arlene was born on January 6, 1938, in rural Hoisington, Kansas, to John Edward and Antonia Marie (Langer) Stoss. She married Vernon Adolph Yarmer on May 22, 1956, in Olmitz, Kansas. Her husband, Vernon, preceded her in death on June 21, 2008. Arlene was a devoted member of St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Ann Altar Society, and the Sunflower Polka Club. She was renowned for her polka dancing skills and taught numerous friends and family members over the years. She was a hardworking and dedicated individual, maintaining order on the family farm and enjoying outdoor activities such as cooking, gardening, and embroidery. Later in life, she embarked on travels and cherished the memories she made. Arlene’s greatest passion was her family. She was a stoic example of strength and independence, instilling those values in her loved ones. Surviving Family Arlene is survived by: * Son: Verlin Yarmer and his wife, Susanne, of Russell * Daughters: Rhonda Glassman and her husband, John, of Russell; Becky Cameron and her husband, Allen, of Grant City, Missouri; Rochelle Kuhn and her husband, Curtis, of Victoria, Kansas * Daughter-in-Law: Valerie Yarmer of Russell * Sister-in-Law: Darlene Stoss of Hoisington * 20 Grandchildren and 27 Great-Grandchildren (with one more arriving soon) Preceded in Death Arlene was preceded in death by her son, Robert Yarmer; brother, Ed Stoss; and three sisters, Leona Reichuber, Evelyn Penka, and Erma Schlochtermeier. Funeral Arrangements Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kansas, officiated by Father Warren Stecklein. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Olmitz. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with a Vigil and Altar Society Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials Memorials may be given in Arlene’s honor to St. Ann Catholic Church, the Sunflower Polka Club, or the Clara Barton Hospital Foundation. Arlene Caroline Yarmer, 86, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024 at Brookdale Assisted Living, Great Bend, Kan. She was born Jan. 6, 1938, in rural Hoisington, Kan., to John Edward and Antonia Marie (Langer) Stoss. Arlene married Vernon Adolph Yarmer on May 22, 1956 in Olmitz, Kansas. He died on June 21, 2008.

A longtime resident of Russell and Barton counties, Arlene was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Ann Altar Society and Sunflower Polka Club, where he taught many friends and family members to dance over the years. She was known as a hard worker who maintained order on the farm. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, embroidery and in later years traveling. Above all, she was devoted to her family, being a stoic example of strength and independence.

Survivors include a son, Verlin Yarmer and wife Susanne of Russell; three daughters, Rhonda Glassman and husband John of Russell, Becky Cameron and husband Allen of Grant City, Mo., Rochelle Kuhn and husband Curtis of Victoria, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Valerie Yarmer of Russell; sister-in-law, Darlene Stoss of Hoisington; and 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, one arriving soon.

Arlene was preceded in death by her son, Robert Yarmer; brother, Ed Stoss; and three sisters, Leona Reichuber, Evelyn Penka and Erma Schlochtermeier.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kansas, with Father Warren Stecklein officiating.
