North High Seniors Create Mosaic Bricks for Meals on Wheels Sensory Garden

North High School seniors in Ms. Stanton’s art classes have embarked on a heartwarming project to create beautiful mosaic bricks for the Meals on Wheels Sensory Garden. The garden, located at the Meals on Wheels West County Center in Des Peres, provides a therapeutic and stimulating environment for seniors receiving Meals on Wheels services. The students began the project by collecting colorful glass, tiles, and other materials to create their mosaic designs. They worked diligently, meticulously placing each piece to form vibrant patterns and images. Some bricks depicted scenes of nature, while others showcased abstract designs. “This project has been an excellent opportunity for our students to use their creativity while also giving back to their community,” said Ms. Stanton. “The bricks will brighten the sensory garden and provide a source of joy and inspiration for seniors who visit.” The students were particularly excited about the purpose of their creations. “It’s amazing to think that our work will make a difference in the lives of seniors,” said senior Emily Brown. “We hope it brings them happiness and comfort.” The completed mosaic bricks were installed in the sensory garden during a special ceremony attended by North High students, Meals on Wheels staff, and community members. The bricks were met with great enthusiasm and appreciation. “These mosaic bricks are a testament to the generosity and artistry of our community,” said Hilary Sater, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels St. Louis. “They will be a treasured part of our garden for years to come.” In addition to brightening the sensory garden, the mosaic bricks serve as a reminder of the strong bond between North High and Meals on Wheels. The students’ work demonstrates the power of youth involvement in making a positive impact on the community.

Waterloo, IA

– North High School seniors have been hard at work creating mosaic bricks to be used in the Meals on Wheels sensory garden. The garden is being developed as a place where seniors can socialize, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. The mosaic bricks are made from recycled materials, such as broken tiles and dishes. The students designed and created the mosaics themselves, and each brick is unique. “This project is a great way for our students to give back to the community,” said North High art teacher Heather Johnson. “They are learning about mosaics and using their creativity to make something that will be enjoyed by others.” The Meals on Wheels sensory garden is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2023. The garden will be located at the Meals on Wheels headquarters in Waterloo. Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization that provides meals to seniors in need. The organization serves over 1,000 seniors in the Waterloo area. The sensory garden will be a place where seniors can socialize, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. The garden will feature a variety of plants, flowers, and herbs. There will also be benches and tables where seniors can sit and talk. The mosaic bricks will be used to create a path through the garden. The bricks will add a touch of color and beauty to the garden, and they will also help to make the path more accessible for seniors. The North High seniors are proud to be a part of this project. They are excited to see the garden completed and to know that they have made a difference in the lives of seniors in the Waterloo area.
