The woman was subsequently transported to Hackensack Hospital but has been released since. The storms that struck the region brought intense lightning, damaging winds, and hail. As they moved eastward from the Midwest, the storms caused significant damage, including downed trees and power lines throughout northern New Jersey and into New York. In Bayside, Queens, several individuals became trapped in their vehicles due to downed trees and wires. Additionally, a tree fell on a person in East Orange, New Jersey, around 8:30 p.m. The victim’s current condition is unknown. The storms also disrupted transportation services and air traffic.
A New Jersey woman is lucky to be alive Thursday after a giant tree crashed through her home — while she was watching TV on the couch — amid severe weather a day ago.
Her husband was in a separate area when it happened and provided first aid until police arrived at their Park Ridge home. The woman was taken to Hackensack Hospital but has since been released.
Storms produced abundant lightning and some produced damaging winds and hail. The storms brought hail and wind damage in the form of downed trees as they moved east from the Midwest. There were numerous reports of downed trees and wires in northern New Jersey and into New York, resulting in some people becoming trapped in a car in Bayside, Queens.
One person in East Orange, New Jersey, had a tree fall on them around 8:30 p.m. There was no immediate update on the person’s condition Thursday.
Transit and air traffic were also severely disrupted.
