The 11-year-old girl and a woman identified as Krystal Akers of Dublin, Virginia, were rushed to the hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The 55-year-old male driver of the SUV and the three-month-old baby sustained serious injuries. A 55-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries. The truck driver, a 26-year-old man from Hyattsville, Maryland, and a 23-year-old male passenger also sustained minor injuries. Virginia State Police are investigating the crash and have stated that charges are pending. However, the cause of the collision remains under investigation. Krystal Akers of Dublin, Virginia, was killed, Virginia State Police said Tuesday. She was 27. The 11-year-old girl’s name was not released.

The fatal crash occurred Friday around 2:30 p.m. on I-66 westbound at the 46 mile marker in Prince William County, state police said.

A family in a disabled Hyundai Tucson had come off the right shoulder of the highway.

The driver of an Isuzu NPR-HD truck went off the right side of the highway and struck the SUV. The Tucson struck the jersey wall and was pushed about 400 feet along the shoulder, police said.

Akers and the child were rushed to a hospital, where they died.

The 55-year-old man driving the SUV and a three-month-old baby were seriously injured. According to police, a 55-year-old woman who was riding as a passenger suffered minor injuries.
