According to the Sayville Fire Department, the driver was successfully extricated from the wreckage by firefighters with the assistance of Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Services and Community Ambulance Company. Preliminary police reports indicate that one driver was traveling eastbound on Service Road and the other was traveling northbound on Lakeland when the crash occurred. Both drivers were male, and one was taken to South Shore University Hospital with minor injuries. “Teamwork between the West Sayville Fire Department, Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Services, and Community Ambulance Company contributed to a successful outcome,” said WSFD Chief Brian D’Onofrio. SAYVILLE, NY – First responders rescued a driver trapped in a wrecked vehicle Monday evening after two vehicles collided at the intersection of Lakeland Avenue and Sunrise Highway Service Road, the West Sayville Fire Department told Patch.

According to Suffolk County Police, one driver was traveling eastbound on Service Road, while another was traveling northbound on Lakeland. There was a male driver in each car, police said.

One of them went to South Shore University Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

West Sayville Fire Department Chief Brian D’Onofrio told Patch that Sayville’s Community Ambulance Company notified its crews of the crash shortly after 10 p.m.

D’Onofrio was first on scene and found one of the drivers trapped in his vehicle.

When SCPD emergency responders arrived, they began the extrication with the assistance of WSFD personnel, according to D’Onofrio.

“Teamwork between the West Sayville Fire Department, Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Services and Community ambulance company contributed to a successful outcome,” said D’Onfrio.
