Abraham, Managing Director of NBTC Group, addressed the media three days after the tragic fire accident in Kuwait that claimed the lives of 49 people, including several employees of the company. Visibly emotional, Abraham expressed his deep sorrow and apologized. Abraham acknowledged that the incident was an unfortunate event and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. “I know most of them. They worked with us for over 27 years. What happened was truly heartbreaking,” he said. The NBTC Group Director emphasized that while the fire was not a deliberate mistake on the company’s part, they take full responsibility for the lives lost. Abraham assured that the company is committed to supporting the bereaved families and providing assistance. Abraham clarified that the company is in touch with embassies to facilitate the disbursement of compensation to the affected families. In addition to distributing Rs. 8 lakh as immediate compensation, the victims’ families will also receive insurance benefits. Abraham dismissed accusations of overcrowding in the building, stating that it had 24 apartments with three bedrooms each and housed only about 160 employees. He attributed the incident to a short circuit in the security guard’s room on the ground floor, ruling out any gas explosion. The NBTC Group Director explained that the provision of housing and food for employees was free of charge and the building was not particularly old. He added that since the deaths occurred accidentally, the victims’ families would receive insurance amounting to four years’ salary. NBTC had earlier expressed shock and sadness over the tragedy, which killed 49 people and left 40 others injured. Abraham, a renowned businessman from Pathanamthitta district in Kerala, is a partner and director of the NBTC Group.
