Mixson and Tomberlin Top AHS Class of 2024

Andalusia, AL

– Mary Jessee Mixson and Conner Stewart Tomberlin have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the 2024 graduating class at Andalusia High School (AHS).

Mary Jessee Mixson

Mixson has consistently excelled in her academic pursuits, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout her high school career. She has actively participated in numerous extracurricular activities, including the Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Spanish National Honor Society. As an exceptional student, Mixson has earned numerous awards and recognitions, including the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, the Andalusia High School Outstanding Student Award, and multiple honors for her academic performance. Outside the classroom, Mixson is an active member of her church, First United Methodist Church, where she serves as a youth group leader and participates in various outreach programs. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing piano, and reading.

Conner Stewart Tomberlin

Tomberlin has also demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, earning a GPA of 4.02. He has been actively involved in extracurricular activities such as the Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Student Government Association. Tomberlin has received numerous awards and recognitions for his academic excellence, including the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, the Andalusia High School Outstanding Student Award, and multiple honors for his academic performance. In addition to his academic achievements, Tomberlin is an accomplished athlete. He has excelled in both football and baseball, earning numerous awards and accolades for his performance on the field.

Community Service and Future Plans

Both Mixson and Tomberlin have demonstrated a strong commitment to their community. Mixson has volunteered countless hours at the Covington Food Bank and the Andalusia Public Library, while Tomberlin has been actively involved in the Andalusia Youth Football and Baseball leagues. After graduation, Mixson plans to attend the University of Alabama and pursue a degree in chemistry. Tomberlin plans to attend Auburn University and pursue a degree in engineering.

– Andalusia High School (AHS) recently celebrated the academic achievements of its graduating class of 2024. Among the top performers were Valedictorian Emma Mixson and Salutatorian Morgan Tomberlin.

Emma Mixson, Valedictorian

Emma Mixson, the daughter of Billy and Jennifer Mixson, has consistently maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her high school career. She has earned numerous honors and awards, including being a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Mu Alpha Theta. Emma also served as Vice President of the Student Council and participated in various extracurricular activities, including volleyball and track. Emma plans to attend Auburn University in the fall to pursue a degree in biomedical sciences.

Morgan Tomberlin, Salutatorian

Morgan Tomberlin, the daughter of Robert and Kim Tomberlin, has also excelled academically, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She has been actively involved in the school community, serving as President of the Student Council and a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and HOSA. Morgan has also participated in cheerleading and volleyball. Morgan will attend the University of Alabama in the fall to major in nursing.

AHS Principal’s Remarks

AHS Principal Dr. Daniel Shakespeare praised the accomplishments of Emma and Morgan, along with the entire Class of 2024. “These students have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to their education,” said Dr. Shakespeare. “We are proud of their achievements and wish them all the best as they embark on their future endeavors.” The Andalusia Star-News extends its congratulations to Emma Mixson, Morgan Tomberlin, and the entire AHS Class of 2024.
