Celebration of Life Announced for Youngstown Explosion Victim

– A celebration of life service has been announced for Gwen Washington, a victim of the recent explosion in Youngstown. The service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the John J. Cafaro Event Center at Eastwood Mall. Gwen Washington, age 65, was one of two people killed in the explosion, which occurred on April 19th. Washington was a resident of Youngstown and a beloved community member. The celebration of life service will begin at 11:00 AM and will include remarks from family members, friends, and community leaders. The service is open to the public. Gwen Washington was known for her kindness, generosity, and love for her family and community. She was a dedicated employee of Phantom Fireworks and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. “Gwen was a pillar of our community,” said Pastor Robert Patton of Mount Zion Baptist Church. “She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.” Following the celebration of life service, a reception will be held at the John J. Cafaro Event Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church or the Gwen Washington Memorial Fund at any Fifth Third Bank location. The Youngstown Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office continue to investigate the cause of the explosion.

A Celebration of Life has been announced for Michele Sigler, a victim of the Youngstown explosion that occurred on January 21, 2023. The event will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Colucci Event Centre, located at 2729 Belmont Avenue in Youngstown. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM. Sigler was one of five people who were killed in the tragic explosion. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, and her loss is deeply felt by her family and community. All are welcome to attend the Celebration of Life to pay their respects and remember Michele’s life and legacy.
