Elgin Library Pride Month Exhibition Honors LGBTQ+ Authors

The Elgin Library is celebrating Pride Month with an exhibition featuring books by LGBTQ+ authors. The exhibition, which is located in the library’s main floor lobby, includes a variety of titles, including fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books. “We wanted to provide a way for our community to celebrate Pride Month and learn more about LGBTQ+ literature,” said Elgin Library Director Amanda Civitello. “We hope that this exhibition will encourage people to explore new authors and perspectives.” The exhibition will be on display through the end of June.

‘Super Mario Bros.’ Film Will Be Shown Friday at Panton Mill Park

The City of Elgin will host a free screening of the “Super Mario Bros.” film on Friday, June 24 at Panton Mill Park. The movie will begin at dusk. “We’re excited to bring this family-friendly movie to Panton Mill Park,” said Elgin Mayor David Kaptain. “It’s a great way to celebrate the summer and enjoy a movie under the stars.” Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. Concessions will be available for purchase.

St. Sophia Greek Fest with Food, Dancing and Other Activities

The St. Sophia Greek Festival will be held from Thursday, June 23 to Sunday, June 26 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 525 Church St., Elgin. The festival will feature authentic Greek food, live music, dancing, and other activities. There will also be a kids’ zone with games and activities. “We’re excited to welcome the community to our Greek festival,” said St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church Father John Artemas. “It’s a great opportunity to experience Greek culture and traditions.” The festival will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday, and from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
