Neeraj, a former worker at the Narela agricultural factory, where a fire claimed the lives of three men and injured six on Saturday, recounted the harsh working conditions that led him to leave the job. With over 20 workers crammed into six rooms and no weekly time off, he stated that 12-hour shifts were commonplace. His brother Lalu (32), who suffered burns in the fire, had worked at the factory for eight years. Other injured workers included Pushpender (26), Akash (19), Mohit Kumar (21), Monu (25), and Ravi Kumar (19). The relatives of the injured said the men were sleeping when the fire broke out. At Safdarjung Hospital, Monu and Mohit were admitted to the ICU, while Pushpender was admitted to the Burns and Plastics ward. Monu had severe burns covering 55% of his body, while Pushpender had 15% burns. Ramesh, a relative of Mohit and Pushpender, lamented that they worked in the factory due to lack of other employment opportunities. Mohit, despite having a BA degree, struggled to find better jobs. Akash and Lalu were later transferred to Sudarshan Hospital in Narela due to lack of beds at Safdarjung Hospital. According to Neeraj, the factory owner assured them that hospital bills would be covered but did not discuss any compensation for the tragedy.
