He emphasized that the President must address the issue urgently by replacing underperforming appointees and implementing policies to mitigate the hardships faced by Nigerians. KINGSLEY EBERE

A human rights activist and Chairman of the Ambassadors Of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF), Comrade Prince Savior Ichie, has started a hunger strike. He protests and calls on Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate, urgent steps to address rising costs. of food, because many people are dying of hunger throughout the country.

PMEXPRESS reports that Comrade Ichie made the call while protesting and carrying placards with various inscriptions to draw government attention to food insecurity.

He threatened that if the current government led by President Tinubu did not address the issue of food insecurity and price instability in Nigeria, he would climb an electricity pole and stay there until the President addressed the problem.

An embittered Ichie lamented that many families cannot afford to eat the regular food due to the rising cost of purchasing those food items in the United States of Nigeria.

He explained that some of the common food items such as bread, sugar, tomatoes, tea and vegetables among others have increased so much that it is now a luxury to buy those items since the current government took over.

Ichie said the current administration seems to have shown a nonchalant attitude towards the plight of Nigerians, noting that while a few others can only afford to feed their families with one square meal a day as a livelihood, many cannot.

The activist stated that commodity prices deteriorated due to government leaders’ mismanagement of the economy, something the President must urgently address.

On the recent NLC strike, Ichie noted that the gist was to cushion the impact of the hardship on Nigerians and to push the government to respond through salary increases on the minimum wage, which would leave some Nigerians can cope with the high costs of feeding their families due to inflation.

Comrade Ichie urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give hope to Nigerians by looking critically at the rise in food prices and look inward at those he has appointed who are not performing by terminating their appointments.

He explained that he assumes that the President is not aware of this very critical condition Nigerians are facing at the hands of incompetent appointees and that is why he is drawing his attention through the protest.

He advised the government to implement policies that can mitigate the impact of hardship by appointing representatives who can provide viable solutions to the challenges, and not self-centered leaders.

“The giant of Africa (Nigeria) is becoming a shadow of itself due to the recent economic situation due to food inflation and food insecurity, which gradually became hunger and hopelessness for Nigerians,” he stated.

Ichie urged Nigerians to pray that the President makes the right decisions for peace and progress in the country and that he restructure certain offices occupied by appointees in the government branch to discourage corrupt practices including embezzlement of public funds.
