This state-of-the-art facility marks a significant milestone in the city’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. Located in the heart of downtown Detroit, the Charging Hub boasts 30 DC fast-charging stations, capable of charging EVs up to 80% in just 30 minutes. This unparalleled charging capacity addresses the critical need for convenient and accessible charging infrastructure to accelerate EV adoption. The hub is a collaboration between Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, DTE Energy, and NextEnergy. DTE Energy provided $2 million in funding and installed the charging stations, while NextEnergy designed and managed the project. “Today, Detroit is making history,” said Mayor Duggan. “We’re launching the largest, fastest, and most affordable electric vehicle charging hub in the nation. This is a game-changer for Detroit, for Michigan, and for the entire country.” The Charging Hub is strategically positioned near major transportation hubs, including the Detroit Amtrak station and QLINE streetcar line. This ensures that EV drivers have easy access to charging while traveling or commuting. “This hub is a beacon of progress,” said Gerry Anderson, President and CEO of DTE Energy. “It represents our commitment to building a sustainable future, making electric vehicles more convenient and affordable for everyone.” The hub will play a pivotal role in promoting clean transportation and reducing carbon emissions. It is estimated that each EV charged at the hub will save approximately 100 gallons of gasoline per year, significantly contributing to Detroit’s environmental goals. “The Charging Hub is a testament to our collective effort to drive the future of transportation,” said Jean Redfield, CEO of NextEnergy. “We are thrilled to be a part of this groundbreaking project that will empower Detroiters to embrace EVs.” The Detroit EV Charging Hub is not only a technological innovation but also a symbol of the city’s transformation into a hub of clean energy and advanced mobility. It serves as a beacon of progress, inspiring communities across the nation to follow suit in the pursuit of a more sustainable future.
